Shettleston Housing Scheme, Glasgow

Makes use of geothermal energy by taking warm water from a disused coal mine under the site. This water is passed through heat pumps and retained in a thermal storage tank, which also receives warm water from 36m2 of solar panels. The buildings are well insulated with cellulose insulationnd, and running costs are in the region of £25 a year for heating and £50 a year for hot water.

There are 16 dwellings, providing a variety of house types and sizes designed to cater for families, young couples, and the elderly. The project was completed in June 1999
