This year the award is limited to applicants across the diffrent design departments and disciplines at the University of Strathclyde and is being run in conjunction with the David Livingston Centre for Sustainability.
Who can Enter
The award is open to matriculated students at any design-related courses at the University of Strathclyde.
Aim of the Award
The grant is intended to further the study and development of ecological design by encouraging students to explore the latest developments in this and other countries. It as an opportunity for students to develop their interest in the ecological aspects of subjects they are already studying for in their course work.
The principal criteria for judging applications are:
The value of the proposed study for the further development of ecological design.
The student's interest in gaining an understanding of ecological design.
The feasibility of achieving the study objectives within the cost and time parameters.

Final Date for Submissions: 27th June, 2008
Judging: early July
Announcement of Winner: mid/late July
Generally, the winner can chose the dates for the tour, but they should also be agreed with SEDA, and the tour should be
completed within a year of receiving the award.
How to Enter
Once you have decided to enter the award, e-mail Mary Kelly to let her know that you will be submitting an entry.
Download the application form, complete the cover sheet, and prepare a statement of approx. 1,000 words.
Your statement should include:
- an outline of the subject you plan to use the award to explore and why you are interested in it, with reference to
the 3 principle criteria listed above
- an itinerary for your travels with dates where possible
- rough costings
- relevant footnotes, references and illustrations
Submit the application form cover sheet and your written statement as attached documents by e-mail to Mary Kelly to arrive
no later than Friday 27th June, 2008.
Judging
Applications will be judged by a select committee which will meet in early July with the winner being announced at a
presentation in late July. Half of the award will be given when the winner is announced, and the remaining half on receipt of
an acceptable visual report and presentation on the study tour.
What is Required of the Winner
Within 3 months of completing the study tour the winner is required to produce an illustrated report (2,000 words max),
capable of display in electronic form. They will be asked to give a 20 minute talk about their tour as part of an evening event
which will be arranged by SEDA, at a time mutually convenient to both.
