The house was constructed with mass produced earth and fibre bricks manufactured in Scotland by Errol Brick Co. and finished with clay mortar and German clay plasters. The cladding is of locally grown, untreated larch.
Funding for an evaluation was povided by DTI Partners in Innovation and Communities Scotland, and it was found that earth masonry was simple to use and had major benefits of moisture control and thermal mass. The clay plasters produced an attractive finish, but a clear need for specialist training was demonstrated.
Designed by Arc Architects, Auchtermuchty, Fife. More information about the house and evaluation is available on their web site.
